Somashree Ghosh Dastidar

Born and brought up in Delhi, obtained her engineering degree in Manufacturing Processes & Automation, post which she completed her MBA in Finance. Besides being a Corporate Banker by profession, she is immensely passionate about music.

Somashree received her initial training in Indian classical music from Smt. Abha Pandit and Dr. Meeta Pandit of the renowned Gwalior Gharana. Her talent has been finely crafted with meticulous care under the tutelage of Pt. Sarathi Chatterjee, a renowned exponent of the Kirana Gharana, from whom she is taking her advanced training. Presently she is also receiving training in Thumri & Dadra from the well known Smt. Shanti Hiranandji. Her lessons in Khayal, Bhajans, and Thumris depict the purity and mesmerism that is associated with the reputed gharanas. Somashree is also receiving her training in semi classical Bengali songs - Nazrul Geeti and Shyama Sangeet from Late Biswajit Chatterjee, disciple of Shri Siddheshwar Mukherjee of Kolkata. She has also recently started dabbling in western music and has received appreciation for the same.Her recent albums with Megaphone Company, Cozmik Harmony and INRECO, Kolkata have been liked by music lovers of all ages.

She is one of the very few artistes in India who render a wide range of classified songs in the same performance which include Nazrul geeti, Shyama Sangeet, old Bangla modern songs sung by various legends, Palli geeti, Contemporary Bengali songs from her own albums,Maa Durgaa’s songs, Sufi songs, Thumri and Dadra & amp;contemporary fusion music etc. in which she has been formally trained by renowned music personalities of India.Her last album composed by well known Shri Gautam Ghoshal and Shameek of Kolkata was released by INRECO in September 2015. Her latest album “Ami Shei Meye” was released in Kolkata during Durga Puja 2016.One of the composers of the album, Shri Indrojit Dey was nominated for RADIO MIRCHI MUSIC AWARD 2017 for one of the songs of Somashree’s album.
